The Dr Martens 1460 Boot in Oxblood was the first style introduced to the UK in 1960 and is still the most popular style today. The 1460 is an 8 eyelet boot with Air Wair Goodyear Welted sole unit and very hard wearing. The boots were initially popular among postmen and factory workers but DM's were adopted by Skinheads and Mods during the 1960's, and famously worn by Pete Townsend of The Who.
Dr Martens have always been associated with rebellious British Subcultures, people with attitude and a character of their own-people who are different, with a very distinctive style.
Dr Martens is a cultural icon, the symbol of self expression at the heart of many British and European subcultures, and can be seen worn widely at summer music festivals. Without music, Dr Martens would have remained a workwear boot. The music of tribes who wear Dr. Martens has become inseparable from the brand itself. From Ska to Mod/Rock, then Grunge to Britpop, Dr Martens have continued to be the shoes of choice for many British Subcultures.
After more than five decades, the brand has now grown to include not only the 1460 boots and 1461 shoes that it was built on, but also a wider selection of styles to appeal to a street-savvy audience.
