Spring Court-Since 1936-retro heritage breathable tennis shoe with vulcanised rubber sole-was very popular in the 1960's and 1970's. The first tennis shoe designed for play on clay courts
Created in Paris in 1936, Spring Court trainers are recognisable by their four distinctive ventilation holes in the midsole. This iconic shoe became very popular in the 1960's when it was adopted as a symbol of trendy street wear.
Spring Court Trainers were invented in 1936 by Georges Grimmeisen, a tennis lover. This revolutionary shoe was breathable, made of cotton canvas with a vulcanized rubber sole.
The Spring Court tennis shoe, designed for play on clay, was quickly adopted by professional and amateur players and reigned supreme on tennis courts until the late 1970s.
In the 1960's, a decade of great transformation, Spring Court Trainers were worn off the playing field. They were worn by rock stars, artists and the general population. Wearing Spring Court Trainers was a subtle way of affirming oneself, and refusing to conform. Since their creation, over 25 million pairs of Spring Court Trainers have been sold. Spring Court Trainers enjoyed another resurgence in Street Fashion in the 1990's and this has never faded, as the original style is eternal. Check out John Lennon wearing Spring Court on the cover of Abbey Road!
